Argentina is without doubt producing some of the most exciting new world wines at the moment. The leading black grape is Malbec – fruity when young and elegant and rich with bottle age. These wines are grown at high altitudes and are perfect with the excellent beef that the country also produces. I am very excited about all of these small grower wines. They offer terrific value relative to their quality level. |

Joffre Malbec 2006, RJ Vinedos |
£12.99 per bottle £155.88 per case Here’s another reason why wines from the Uco Valley have gained such an excellent reputation. This outstanding Malbec made from old vines grown in their own vineyards at Los Sauces. The colour is wonderfully attractive with deep, intense ruby and shades of purple. The nose is highly expressive with perfumed aromas of redcurrant, blueberry and black forest fruits layered on top of ripe figs, some jammy fruit, hints of sweet spice, vanilla and chocolate and showing some signs of maturity. In the mouth the fresh fruits, soft juicy tannins and alcohol are all exquisitely balanced and followed through by a sweet, savoury and persistent finish. Grand Malbec indeed!
